Ext. Polly's Madhouse

                         No
It's just a dream
All ticks are nodding
It's a system of punishment of
law and order
like back rows of teeth

she doesn't leave the state to find
               anything lost
she finds something lost and
must leave the state

It's her own
                         image locked away
in the form of a high school year book
voted most likely to marry
     a movie star
to which her husband replies:
     call me Tom Cruise

Polly says:
     you look older in person
Mel:
     and rounder

This isn't the problem the problem
lies late at night not sleeping
barely breathing and
"Tom" by her side.  Dreams
of boxes we must break
dreams of wine and grapes
of something seductively
rural like the hills
are alive like sheep
in sheep's clothing like
early morning the grass dew
     reflects the passion in
          your eyes like
that         and she in her
white dress          unsuitable
for farm-work          princess
     woman          angel
