Kitties growling
Hissing warnings about boundaries
Turf
Lap-time rights
Do they know they keep me
Awake, worrying?
Experimental
Poly-cat household
Two grey waifs on a
Freezing Halloween doorstep
Sad, thin, hungry kitty eyes
Beg
They're so cute
The only delay was
Rationalization
James the elder is lonely
A new kitty will keep him
Company when I'm gone.

So they all keep me
Company now
Crossing off the days
Warding off the deep dark funk
Of a relationship crisis depression
That I feel justified
In having.
But it can be hard to
Stay blue
When a sweet kitten
Licks your hand
As you scratch her ears
And the elder
Guards your dreams at night
While the baby engages you
In silly play, full of
Laughter.

I don't need a man
I need 3 cats
And a garden and a
Purple house with
Rainbows of color
In the rooms
And rock music
Sounding through the air
A defiant shout
In the silence of the void
The void that I
Daily strive to
Disappear
To not try to fill
But to get rid of
And someday I'll succeed
And maybe not
Flinch at the
Mention of that name,
The image of that face.
The music of that era.
And life will resume
And the universe will
Continue to expand, regardless.
