August, 2003

So the risk you take
Is equal to the love you make
Or something stupid and
Mathematical like that,
And the risks I took
Are great and brave
And as uncelebrated
As anything can be
Because they are the
Personal risks
The risks of feeling
Of woman
Of the land
Of woo-woo emotion
Not the risks
Of great men
With their piles of
Money and a
Corner office
Overlooking the urban sprawl.

Manly men,
Hiding behind their fears
Fear of losing hair, power,
Status, stamina,
And I just an
Idle peon looking on
With awe in her eyes.

Yeah, that's it.
Keep believing you jumped on
The emotional bandwagon
And maybe you can even
Convince the others around you
But you can't fool me unless you hide
Something and you'd never hide
From me, right?
Open, honest.
Use that honesty as a flog
To raise up the welts
Of insecurity that are
Concealed by large
Chunks of
Gauzy magic

Punish me, for I am
Not worthy-that is what the
Chorus seems to be
But I can't get the words out
Equal-that is the equation
I wants.
That is what I need
That is what you fear
That is what we hide from
That is why this
Dance of
Words and
Slips and slides
Into jobs and
Tears and
The tears of the fool
Are easy
But the tears of
The cynical
Figure in judgment
Are grudging
And must be earned
And I think
That perhaps,
In the end
My measuring stick
Was flawed
And the tears
Are bitter because
They should
Not be shed in vain.
