Year 6 of participating in the practice and ritual of waking at 3:15am in August~
It has become a space to enter into, like an unknown cave.
Every year I have approached it with some new twist in order to manage my energy and maintain more of an attraction to it rather than an aversion.
This year I used my Iphone and the "Sleep Cycle" ap to wake with the sound of Erik Satie's, "Gymnopedie". Overall I was able to go through the transformative process of meeting myself in the dark zone or the dark muse to entreat the act of writing, teetering on the edge without crashing by the end of the month.
For inspiration I took a few moments (most nights) to read a passage by Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche on "Writing Your Mind," as well as sel/ecting passages from my notes on writing that I took in a workshop with Sherwin Bitsui at Naropa U's Summer Writing Program, 2010.
The poems focus on life (family, death, love...), sense perceptions and my Italian roots.
Enjoy and thanks for reading!
